…Appoints Oshiomhole’s Son as Health Commissioner
The newly sworn-in Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collections across the state, particularly in motor parks, until further notice.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Fred Itua, announced the directive on Wednesday in Benin, stating that the governor has also instructed the State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone who disregards the suspension order.
“The collection of revenues in the state has been suspended indefinitely,” said Itua. “Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the state government will be arrested. The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenue on behalf of the state government. The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and will issue new directives.”

In addition to this directive, Governor Okpebholo has appointed Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, the son of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, as the Commissioner for Health. The appointments were announced following the swearing-in of the governor and his deputy on Tuesday in Benin.
The statement also highlighted further key appointments, including Musa Ikhilor, a lawyer, as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and Dr. Samson Osagie, a former member of the House of Representatives, as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. According to Itua, the appointments are subject to approval by the Edo State House of Assembly, with the governor expected to forward the commissioner nominees’ names to the Assembly soon.
