Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has refuted rumors that he is lobbying to become Chief of Staff to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, after he is sworn in on May 29.
Speaking to newsmen during his visit to Gombe State to inaugurate the construction of 550 housing units and Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) Service Centre, El-Rufai described the rumors as “mere speculations.” He stated that his priority was to contribute to the development of Nigeria, and being in government was not the only way to achieve this goal.
El-Rufai emphasized that he would remain committed to the progress of the country, even if he was not in government. He added that he would be available to provide advice on how to move the country forward after he leaves office on May 29, but he would be in the private sector, not as any Chief of Staff.
El-Rufai further explained that he preferred to contribute to Nigeria’s development through the private sector, but he would never stop working for the country’s progress. The governor pointed out that everyone who works in either the private sector or civil society is contributing to the country’s progress, and there is no one way to contribute to the country.
El-Rufai also stated that he had not had any discussions with the President-elect about any portfolio. He urged Nigerians to focus on contributing to the country’s development rather than speculating about his personal ambition.
