Former PFN President to Edo Christians: INEC Counts Votes, Not Prayers

Ahead of the forthcoming elections in Edo State, a former national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Reverend Felix Omobude, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, urged the people of Edo State, particularly Christians, to vote in the upcoming election, emphasising that the Independent National Electoral Commission tallies votes, not prayers.

He encouraged the electorate to use their Permanent Voter’s Cards to actively participate in the democratic process and elect the leader of their choice in the September 21 governorship election.

Omobude called on the people of Edo to vote for a credible candidate, highlighting that democracy provides the opportunity for citizens to choose their leaders and that such an opportunity is now at their doorstep.

He urged them to demonstrate to the world that the people of Edo are knowledgeable and politically enlightened, advising them not to succumb to political intimidation from any godfathers.

The former PFN president also advised voters to scrutinise the track records of the candidates and cast their votes based on merit and credibility, while praying for peace before, during, and after the election.

In a broadcast, Omobude said, “My dear good people of Edo State, I greet you all wherever you are. Democracy offers us the opportunity to participate in the process of choosing who governs us. Such an opportunity is right on our doorstep, and I know that, especially in our faith community, we are praying for good governance, progress, and peace.

“And this is commendable, but unfortunately, INEC does not count prayer points; INEC counts votes. If you don’t have a voter’s card and have not registered, I urge you to do so and take advantage of the opportunity that democracy offers us.”

He added, “This time around, we must show the world that the people of Edo are knowledgeable and politically enlightened. No intimidation; do not allow yourself to be intimidated. Vote for your values and vote your conscience.

“We must also vote for a credible candidate who can move the state forward.”
