Former Delta Governor Okowa Makes First Public Appearance after EFCC Arrest

Former governor Ifeanyi Okowa made his first public appearance as he joined Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at a service of songs held in honour of Mrs. Victoria Ossai Obielum, mother of renowned politician Godwill Obielum.

Okowa was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, 4th November 2024, over an alleged N1.3 trillion fraud but was released on Friday after his passport was seized.

Also attending the well-attended event were the Delta State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Solomon Arenyenka, members of the party’s state executive committee, political dignitaries, and top serving and retired security officers, among others.

The service of songs took place on Wednesday at Obielum’s residence in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Delivering a sermon at the event, Pastor Ifeanyi Ogude of Heaven Bound Christian International Church Ministry spoke on the essence of life, urging Christians to dedicate their lives to serving God and humanity.

He said, “Nobody knows when death will come, and as such, people should be prepared by living a good life and leaving worthy legacies behind, as they will be remembered for what they did.”

Mrs. Obielum passed away at the age of 87 on Thursday, 20th June 2024, and her remains will be interred on Saturday, 16th November 2024, at Obielum’s residence in Ushie, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state.
