Construction worker succumbs to injuries after being rescued from Abuja building collapse

A construction worker who was rescued by the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during a building collapse in Abuja on Saturday, has passed away.

As reported by The Punch, this was confirmed by Nkechi Isa, FEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, in a Whatsapp message stating “yes, he died today.”

In an earliet statement, FEMA said the incident occurred at a construction site located in the Central Business District, beside Taj Bank, around 3:30 pm on Saturday.

The deceased was among labourers at the construction site casting the first floor of the building when the entire cast reportedly fell on him.

The statement read, “The victim was rescued and taken to the Trauma Centre of the National Hospital, Abuja.

“The team from FEMA and the FCT Fire service were able to rescue the trapped man with the aid of extrication equipment and the construction company’s excavator.”

Meanwhile, FEMA’s Acting Director General, Mohammed Sabo, who was at the scene f the incident and supervised rescue efforts, appealed to developers to always adhere to building codes.
