Natasha Akpoti Says She Will Present Sexual Assault Evidence Against Akpabio at ‘Right Time’

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has stated she will provide evidence to support her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During her Thursday appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the senator said: “At the right time and at the right space, I will present the evidence that I have (against Akpabio).”

This statement follows weeks of controversy after Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6 for “gross misconduct” following a seating arrangement dispute with Akpabio.

After her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the Senate President of making inappropriate advances during a December 8, 2023, visit to his Akwa Ibom home. She alleged Akpabio suggested she should “take care” of him to receive favorable treatment in the Senate.

On March 1, Ekaette Akpabio, the Senate President’s wife, filed multiple defamation lawsuits against Akpoti-Uduaghan regarding her comments about her husband.

Akpabio denied the allegations on March 5, stating: “At no time did I ever attempt any sexual harassment on the said distinguished senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman for that matter. I and my siblings were raised very well by my late single mother, who died in 2000, through very difficult times. And I therefore have the highest regard for women.”

During the television program, Akpoti-Uduaghan also challenged Akpabio to press charges regarding her death threat allegations against him, saying, “I am hearing that the Senate President wants to sue me for that; I will tell him to go ahead. We will meet and cross that bridge.” When asked to substantiate this allegation, she responded, “Let us get to that bridge.”
