Nigerian Lawmaker Demands Sacking of Benue Governor’s CPS for Insulting SGF Akume

Terseer Ugbor, the member representing the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, has called for the immediate dismissal of Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Benue State Governor, following his controversial comment referring to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, as a “mad man.”

In a statement released on Monday, January 6, 2025 by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ugbor condemned the unethical behaviour displayed by Kula.

He demanded that the CPS be replaced by a more qualified individual from the same Federal Constituency, one who would uphold the ethical standards and responsibilities inherent in the role.

Ugbor argued that Kula’s actions, including the disparaging remark, were not only inappropriate but also reflected a lack of judgment and understanding of his responsibilities as a press secretary.

The lawmaker stressed that such conduct was unacceptable, especially in a position that requires a high degree of professionalism.

He described the recent undignified, inglorious, and ignoble remarks by Mr. Kula against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, as unbecoming and another low point of the Father Hyacinth Alia’s administration and a grave slight on the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ugbor also calls on the Nigerian Press Council to denounce the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor and apply all necessary sanctions against the CPS for publishing public statements wherein he referred to the SGF as a “mad man.”

However, he affirmed his commitment to the principles of diplomatic, civilised, and constructive engagements in a democratic setting, which we currently enjoy.
